A Crown Befitting of Queen City

Since 2008, I've called Manchester, NH, home, and in that time, I've watched my city grow, evolve, and become richer in its diversity. The vibrant tapestry of cultures is, without a doubt, one of Manchester’s greatest strengths. Yet, as the owner of Crown Catering, I've also keenly felt a persistent gap, particularly when it comes to the culinary landscape: the stark underrepresentation of Black-owned food and accommodation businesses offering authentic Black-American soul food.

It's been disheartening to witness the repeated cycle of Black-owned restaurants opening with such hope, only to close their doors far too soon. Each closure feels like a missed opportunity, a piece of my city's cultural mosaic that doesn't quite get to shine as brightly as it should. Manchester is a city where cultures are not just present; they are intertwined, enriching, and baked into our very identity. It's high time that this inherent cultural richness is fully represented and celebrated in every facet of our community, especially in our dining experiences.

This is where Crown Catering comes in. My mission for starting this business is to do more than just serve delicious food; it's about embracing the culture and vibrancy of Manchester itself. I believe that a small business like Crown Catering has a vital role to play in not only providing exceptional cuisine but also in reflecting the diverse spirit of Queen City. My team and I want to celebrate the unique flavors and traditions of Black-American soul food, aiming to create a space where these culinary traditions are honored, shared, and enjoyed by all.

Manchester deserves a culinary scene that truly reflects its people. It's time for my…our city to have its proper Crown—a symbol of its rich cultural heritage and the thriving diversity that makes Manchester truly unique. By supporting and nurturing businesses that champion this diversity, together, we can ensure that our city’s crown gleams brighter than ever before.

Crowned in Comfort. Served with Soul.
